Expert Advice: Seven Top eCommerce & Marketing Podcasts

Podcasts can be an incredible way to stay up to date on industry news and trends. And with iTunes (the original), TuneIn, SoundCloud, Stitcher, Spreaker, and countless other services, streaming podcasts can be easy and (most of the time) free.
However, finding the most insightful podcasts can, at times, feel like finding a needle in a haystack. So we’ve turned to a few eCommerce experts to find out what they’re listening to regularly.

eCommerce Fuel

Recommended by Garrett Bluhm, VP of eCommerce and Marketplace Strategy at Pattern, the eCommerce Fuel podcast has been broadcasting weekly since 2013. The podcast is focused on providing “tips, strategies, and stories to help six and seven figure store owners take their business to the next level.”

In addition to the podcast, eCommerce Fuel is a private community of about 1,000 eCommerce merchants, which, among other things, features an eCommerce-specific job board for members to hire talent to help grow brands. Membership in the community is free.

The Jason & Scot Show

Melissa Burdick, President and Co-Founder of Pacvue, recommends The Jason & Scot Show eCommerce Podcast, which has been on the air since 2015. Part of the Chicago-based Retail Geek blog and resource-filled site, the podcast is hosted by Retail Geek Founder Jason Goldberg and ChannelAdvisor Founder Scot Mingo.

Every week, these retail industry veterans deep dive into eCommerce industry trends, interview leaders in the retail industry, and discuss timely news. Check out episode 119 of The Jason & Scot Show, where Burdick discussed how to sell on Amazon.

Conversational Commerce

The podcast of Washington, D.C.-based publication Retail Dive, Conversational Commerce started broadcasting in 2017. The focus on each episode is to “break down the biggest retail news and trends with executives, thought leaders, and the Retail Dive team.”

Conversational Commerce was recommended by Benjamin Henniges, eCommerce Manager at Spark Foundry. Henniges admits that it can be difficult to find the time to listen to podcasts; however, he also has enjoyed a few episodes of The Profitero Podcast, which is focused on eCommerce trends in the CPG retail space and was created by Boston-based Profitero.

Manager Tools

Based in Burke, Virginia, Manager Tools is a management consulting and training firm focused on making managers more effective. Recommended by Todd Bowman, Senior Director of Amazon and eRetail at Merkle, the Manager Tools podcast has been broadcasting regularly since 2005. Bowman shares that although it’s not necessarily about marketing, the podcast is very good and worth a listen.

ecent topics include evaluating interviewees, facilitating effective one-on-ones, providing valuable feedback, and implementing coaching and delegating strategies.

How I Built This

Another recommendation from Pacvue’s Melissa Burdick, How I Built This is an NPR podcast with Correspondent Guy Raz that “dives into the stories behind some of the world’s best known companies.”

On the air since 2016, How I Built This has episodes featuring founders of such retail dynamo as Burt’s Bees, Melissa & Doug, TOMS, Tempur-Pedic, Steve Madden, and Honest Tea.

MozPod

Broadcasting since 2017, MozPod is the podcast of SEO powerhouse firm Moz. Based in Seattle, Moz says its focus for the podcast is to help business learn SEO on the go. John Denny, VP of eCommerce and Digital Marketing at CAVU Venture Partners, recommends MozPod for the larger-scale digital marketing insights that it provides.

Recent topics include voice search, measuring the value of PR, referral marketing, and using content to help drive eCommerce.

Future Proof

From U.K.-based research and data insights firm Kantar, Future Proof discusses advertising, marketing, and the media. Future Proof, also a recommendation from Pacvue’s Melissa Burdick, has been on the air since 2018.
